Alice Howland, a 50-year-old mother of three and accomplished Columbia University linguistics professor, is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease. After all, deceptively innocent slips of the tongue, short-term memory losses during lectures, and shocking disorientation attacks inside the campus were all alarming signs of Alice's condition.
