It's been two years since Amber Hill's husband, US Army Sgt. Darren Hill, was killed in the line of duty in Afghanistan. Since then, Amber has been struggling in every aspect of her life. Amber's dead-end waitress job under an uncaring boss barely pays the bills, and the bank is close to foreclosing the mortgage on her house. She doesn't want to burden anyone with this financial problem, least of all Darren's overbearing mother, Patti Hill. Because Darren's death left her a widow and their now-9-year-old daughter Bree Hill fatherless, Amber has lost her faith in God; she no longer attends church or leads its choir. And she's unaware that in her focus on these problems, Bree no longer feels that her mother listens to her to find out what she needs or wants, which might be some connection to her father; they've never even visited his grave yet. As Amber and Bree by association are on a downward path to losing everything, two men who might given them new perspectives enter their lives. The first is race-car driver Cody Jackson, who has come to town on his coach's advice to learn a few lessons under driving guru Joe Carter, the owner/operator of the local garage. Cody's issue is that he doesn't understand that one sometimes needs to slow down to win, at least without killing oneself. While there is a mutual attraction between Amber and Cody, he the first man she's even considered that way since Darren, Cody's line of work may hit a little too close to home in Amber fearing losing yet another important person in her life. Second is the mysterious man in the wheelchair; Amber knows he wants to talk to her, but without even knowing what his message is, she fears hearing it.—Huggo
