Jack's mom starts dating a bouncer in 1993-4, who later moves in. He has a son, Mark, who's same age as Jack and they become close friends. Jack and Mark get beaten up outside a diner by 3 guys and they meet and befriend Sarah. The three all attend the same high school. The dad teaches them to use pistols.
